BeeMyTeacher's Story

How it all started...
Private teachers, tutors, and coaches all face common challenges that traditional school teachers do not have. The founders of BeeMyTeacher, private teachers themselves, understand these challenges. We have to market ourselves to students who want to learn, not because they have to, but because they choose to. This is not, in any way, to downplay the role of the traditional school teachers who serve in our communities, but it highlights groups of teachers that many people might not have considered. These groups include anyone from "average joes" with a knack for teaching soccer, to the "learned Ph.Ds" that teach ancient Chinese pottery. These are the "unsuspecting" teachers who have knowledge about a particular field and a passion to share their knowledge, but they don't know how or where to find eager students.
For instance, Pamela, like many of you, faced a similar challenge when she first began teaching piano lessons. Eight years ago, she was a college student who loved piano and children. Putting these two passions together, she decided to start looking through her community for students. During this start-up phase, questions ran through Pamela's mind. Many of you probably can relate as you remember your first venture into teaching. You likely had the same questions Pamela had. Questions like, "Where should I look for students?", "Should I advertise?", "Do I have enough credentials?", "How do I convince people that I'm qualified?". You were determined but unsure of how to get yourself noticed. Naturally, you probably started within your own circle of friends, family, and community. Pamela's students consisted of children from her neighborhood and church, which gave her a lot of experience. Although she was pleased with her growing student base and their achievements, she was determined to share her knowledge with even more students. Surely, there were many eager learners out there, waiting to be discovered.
Up to this point, Pamela's only advertisement was by word of mouth. To obtain more clientele, she increased marketing by creating business cards, and posting flyers at college campuses and businesses. Often she would hear questions such as, "Where did you find your piano teacher?", "Is there a place I can go to find teachers?", "Who do I talk with to find a teacher that teaches violin?". With these questions in mind, she realized that she was not the only one struggling to find students, but many students were also searching for teachers just like her. Although Pamela was a piano teacher, she often had people asking her where they could find a local trumpet teacher. It was obvious that there was a need waiting to be filled. She concluded that there should be a convenient, central location for students to find teachers in their local area, in any area of expertise: whether it be kickboxing or sewing or basketball. It was then that the idea for BeeMyTeacher came into being.
BeeMyTeacher was created by teachers to serve teachers, tutors, coaches, instructors, learning centers, and anyone else with a desire to pass their knowledge to anyone willing to learn. We recognize the unique challenges you face and want to help you make the most of your teaching experience. We would like to help you receive the credibility and notoriety you deserve as an expert in your field. Together, we can spread the gift of learning to students of all ages all over the country.
